Mission Statement

The Mission

Develop a project that will produce a lucrative, long-term revenue source while simultaneously improving the natural environment.

The Motivation

Most people look to provide for their future through investment. The American owners of Bocas Forestry Project are no different, but they also want to contribute to the preservation of nature. The fusion of these two desires drove the owners as they developed the Project to take advantage of the trends in the tropical hardwoods market.

The Realities

The global demand for tropical hardwoods is tremendous and growing. Due to the ongoing depletion of much of the world’s tropical forests, many countries and organizations have limited or banned the harvest and/or use of trees from the remaining tropical forests.  As the naturally occurring sources for tropical hardwoods continue to decrease, other sources must be tapped to meet the increasing global demand. By necessity, this means tropical hardwood plantations must provide an ever-increasing percentage of total supply to meet the demand.  As the Bocas Forestry Project moves closer to achieving financial success, it will simultaneously benefit its owner and the environment.

 The Goal

Convert a cattle ranch that was created by clearing rainforest into an eco-friendly operation that produces revenue from plantation trees while restoring the native habitats.

 Objectives Achieved

  • Eliminated illegal logging and poaching in the property’s rainforest.

  • Provided jobs for local people as an alternative to environment damaging occupations.

  • Planted more than 8,000 tropical hardwoods, most on former cattle pasture, that will produce lumber and help reduce the need for logging native forests.

  • Planted well over 1,000 fruit and nut trees in previously cleared areas as a source of forage for native birds and animals.

  • Permitted 40 acres of former cattle pasture to revert back to native habitats.

  • Obtained every legal protection and incentive available for a forestry project.

  • Constructed structures to support the operation, including a nursery, a pier, water collection structures and a caretaker’s house.

  • Constructed structures to promote the welfare of the shareholders, including a two-story open air house with concrete storage locker and a three-quarter bathroom.
